Setting Up Timers in TruLight

Automate your permanent lighting with timers — lights on at sunset, off at a specific time, repeating every day without touching a thing.

This module walks you through creating and configuring automated lighting timers in the TruLight app. By the end, you'll have your lights running on a set schedule — turning on at sunset, shutting off at a specific time, and repeating automatically every day without you touching a thing.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  1. Navigate to the timer section of the TruLight app
  2. Create a named timer with a specific lighting pattern, day schedule, and start/stop time
  3. View, edit, and toggle an existing timer on or off

Navigating to Timers in the TruLight App

How to open your TruLight box in the app and locate the timer controls.

Key Concepts

Finding Your Box

When you open the TruLight app, you'll see your connected box listed — look for "TruLight" in the top right corner. The status will show as Online when it's connected and ready. Tap it to open the box controls.

Locating the Timer Section

Once inside the box, look at the bottom right of the screen. You'll see two options: Autoplay and Timer. Autoplay runs light shows automatically; Timer gives you time-based control. Tap Timer to access the scheduling tools.

Action Step

Open your TruLight app right now. Tap your box, confirm it shows "Online," then navigate to the Timer section in the bottom right. Just get there — don't create anything yet.

Creating a Timer

How to build a timer from scratch — giving it a name, picking a lighting pattern, choosing which days it runs, and setting the start and stop times.

Key Concepts

Starting a New Timer

In the Timer section, tap the + button to create a new timer. The first thing you'll do is give it a name. Use something descriptive that tells you what the timer does — for example, Nighttime or Front Yard Evening. Tap Save after naming it.

Selecting a Lighting Pattern

Under the Patterns section, choose the light effect you want this timer to activate. For example, Architectural Warm White gives a clean, classic permanent lighting look. You can also set the pattern style — 1 on, 3 off means one light bulb on followed by three off, creating an evenly spaced look. Choose the pattern that fits the job.

Setting Days and Times

Next, choose which days the timer runs. Selecting Every Day means it fires automatically every night without any manual input.

For the start time, you can choose a fixed time OR use Sunset — which automatically adjusts to your local sunset time each day. This is the most convenient option for outdoor lighting. For the stop time, dial in a specific time (like 2:00 AM), make sure you select AM or PM correctly, then tap Save twice to confirm.

Action Step

Create your first timer right now:

  1. Tap + in the Timer section
  2. Name it "Nighttime"
  3. Select any pattern you like
  4. Set it to run Every Day, starting at Sunset, ending at 2:00 AM
  5. Save it

Viewing and Managing Your Timers

How to review a timer's settings and quickly turn it on or off without deleting it.

Key Concepts

Viewing Active Timers

Once saved, your timers appear as cards in the center of the Timer screen. Each card shows the timer name, pattern, and schedule at a glance.

Editing and Toggling

Tap the center of a timer card to open its settings — from here you can adjust the name, pattern, days, or times. You can also use the toggle switch directly on the card to turn a specific timer on or off without deleting it. This is useful for seasonal adjustments — turn off the summer timer in winter and flip it back on when needed.

Action Step

Open the timer you just created. Tap into its settings to confirm everything looks right — name, pattern, days, and times. Then toggle it off and back on to confirm the toggle works.
